Privacy Policy
Effective 14 October 2026 · applies to JNotes 3.0 and later
JNotes is a notes app by Julitech. It is built so that your notes stay on your phone. This policy explains what data JNotes handles, where it goes, and the choices you have.
Your notes
- Notes are stored on your device. You do not need an account to use JNotes.
- Scan turns a photo into text on your phone, using Google ML Kit. The photo is not uploaded.
- Text you share into JNotes from another app becomes a note on your phone.
- Read aloud uses your phone's own text-to-speech engine.
- We never sell your notes or share them with anyone, and JNotes shows no ads.
Vault (locked notes)
- Locked notes are encrypted on your device. Opening them requires your passcode, or your fingerprint if you turned on fingerprint unlock (a JNotes PRO feature).
- Locked notes appear only inside the Vault. They are never shown on Home, in search results, in reminder notifications or in the home-screen widget.
- The Vault locks again shortly after you leave it.
Reminders, widget and shortcuts
- To show a reminder at the time you choose, JNotes asks for permission to post notifications and, where Android allows it, to schedule exact alarms. It also restores your reminders after the phone restarts. Reminders are scheduled on your phone, and nothing is sent anywhere.
- A reminder notification shows the note's title and a short preview. For a locked note it only says "Reminder: a locked note".
- If you add the home-screen widget, it shows the titles of up to three pinned or recent notes, and never locked notes. That data stays on your phone.
- App shortcuts ("New note", "New checklist") only open the app.
Fonts
The Serif, Sans and Mono typefaces work without the internet. If you open Appearance → More fonts, JNotes downloads font previews and the fonts you choose from Google Fonts. These requests only name the font. They never include your notes, but like any download they show Google your IP address. A font you apply is saved on your phone, so it keeps working offline.
Optional account and online backup
If you choose to sign in (with email and password, or with Google), JNotes uses Google Firebase Authentication to create your account. It stores your email address and display name.
If you then use Back up now, your notes are encrypted on your phone with a backup passphrase that only you know, and only the encrypted copy is uploaded to Google Firebase Realtime Database. We can't read your backups, and neither can Google: all that is visible is the date of each backup and how many notes it holds. The passphrase is never sent anywhere, so nobody can recover it for you. Backups made with versions before 3.0 were not encrypted this way; the app offers to delete them after your first encrypted backup.
Usage and crash data
To find and fix bugs, and to learn which features are worth improving, JNotes uses Google Firebase Analytics and Firebase Crashlytics. They may collect:
- your device model and operating system version
- the app version
- which screens are opened
- which features are used, for example creating a checklist, setting a reminder, pinning a note, scanning text or making a backup
- whether you have PRO, your light or dark mode setting, roughly how many notes you have (as a range such as “6–20”), and whether a home-screen widget is placed
- crash details
- an app-instance identifier
This data never includes the text or titles of your notes, what you search for, or your backup passphrase. You can turn it off at any time in Settings → Privacy → Share usage and crash reports.
Reviews and updates
- JNotes may ask you to rate it, using Google Play's in-app review prompt. To decide when to ask, the app keeps a few counters on your phone: how many notes you have created, when you first opened it, and when it last asked. They are not sent to us. If you leave a review, Google Play handles it under Google's terms.
- When a new version is available, JNotes may show Google Play's in-app update prompt. Google Play checks for and installs the update.
Purchases
JNotes PRO is a one-time purchase through Google Play. Google processes the payment, and JNotes only receives confirmation that you own PRO.
Keeping or deleting your data
- You can export your notes at any time from Settings → Privacy → Export all notes. Locked notes are not included in the export.
- Uninstalling JNotes removes the notes stored on your device.
- You can delete your account and all of your online backups in the app, under Settings → Backup & account → Delete account. You can also request deletion by email.
